“World Animal Day takes place every year on 4 October. Animal welfare groups, sanctuaries and individuals throughout the world hold special events to heighten public awareness of animal issues and to encourage people to think about how we as humans relate to animals.”
World Animal Day began in 1931 and has continued to grow into the event it is today involving 85 countries worldwide. It is to honor the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron Saint of Animals. This past weekend marked numerous “Blessing of the Animals” programs in and around the county.World Animal Day – Mission Statement * To celebrate animal life in all its forms* To celebrate humankind’s relationship with the animal kingdom* To acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives – from being our companions, supporting and helping us, to bringing a sense of wonder into our lives* To acknowledge and be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives
What will you do not only today but everyday to make life better for the animals?
I will continue to raise awareness of important animal welfare issues through any means possible. I will continue to support animal causes and rescue groups.
If I ever plan on having another dog or other pet, I will always adopt. I will make people aware that all puppies from pet stores arrive from the horrific places called puppy mills!
I will take care and be responsible for the pets I do have. I will make that lifetime commitment to any pet I adopt. I will spay/neuter my pet so I am part of the solution to the pet overpopulation crisis and educate others to do so as well.
I will love my pets and give them a great home!
I will speak out against those who hurt, abuse or kill animals for the sheer thrill of it. Abuse of animals is a precursor of abuse of people and possibly the murdering of people. I am an animal advocate and proud of it! It only takes one person to make a difference.
What will you do to help animals?
