I have never heard of age discrimination when it came to adopting a pet in all of these years I have been involved in animal advocacy. That was until today.
Check out this video to see for yourself how this 69 yr. old woman, Harriet Thompson and her husband, were denied adopting a puppy because of their age. Harriet and her husband are state licensed foster parents to many with a grown son living at home.
But in the end all of that didn’t matter. The executive director of the shelter stands by the decision. Did I forget to mention the director is 62 yrs. old herself? I sure hope she doesn’t have any pets.
I thought the whole goal was to find loving, permanent homes for these homeless animals. Here was a perfectly good woman and her husband willing to save a life and were denied.
Although their grown son lives at home, the 69 yr. old woman also told them other family members would take care of the puppy if she should die. The shelter still denied her.
This woman was forced to buy a puppy from a breeder. I hope this was a responsible breeder, particularly since she lives in Kentucky.
What was the shelter thinking? Who came up with this policy? Do you agree with the shelter’s decision?
