This Sunday, the 15th at 8PM, PBS is airing on their Nature program a show titled “Why we love our cats and dogs? You can view a clip here about a special dog named Jerry whose “parents”, Jim and Renee, who ran their own business lovingly gave the title of Canine Fun Officer to Jerry. He knew exactly when the work day was over and anxiously waited to live out his life’s mission – to play!!
Unfortunately, Jerry was diagnosed with cancer. The video clip shows how Jim and Renee have been there for their four-legged best friend during a most difficult time.
Why do people love their cats and dogs? Why do YOU love your cat, dog or whatever pet you have?
I believe as Linda G. had commented on a previous post, my dogs adopted me. All of the dogs I have ever had had gone through rough times one way or another. Some had cancer. Some had been abused. One had been dropped off along Interstate 81 – a tiny dog that my brother found while driving from Wilkes Barre to Berks County. Shebe was found to have a tumor located in her abdomen. Is that why she was cruelly discarded? She also had epilepsy. Is that why her previous owners didn’t want her? And later on she was diagnosed with cancer and succumbed shortly after the diagnosis. But Shebe, no matter what she had been through was happy and my constant companion as all of my dogs have been and continue to be. Shebe used to lie on my belly while doing homework for college. That is what I call devotion. How could anyone throw her out on a busy highway obviously to be killed?
My dogs, no matter what they have been through, have always given back unconditional love to me. I don’t understand how anyone could have gotten rid of any of the dogs I have adopted.
Just this morning, my dog,Shadow, who was abandoned and mistreated, went through my garbage and ripped up sheets of paper towels. He loves to do this. We literally have to keep paper towels out of his reach. He doesn’t eat them but rips them apart and leaves his mess for me to see. After seeing what he did , I looked at him and said “What did you do?” in a loving way. Other pet parents can relate to this. He came over to me with his big brown eyes and placed his head under my chin. Then my other dog Jazz, as usual ,runs to his defense and tries to divert my attention away from Shadow to him. He accomplishes this by wagging his tail quite rapidly and twisting and contorting his body as if to say, “Hey, check me out. I need your attention NOW”. These two think they can outsmart me with their attempts to divert my attention from those ripped up paper towels scattered on my floor. Don’t tell them, but their plan works!
These two comical creatures put a smile on my face at 5:30 in the morning. You can’t beat that. That’s why I love my dogs!! And I’m glad whoever had these dogs didn’t want them. Their loss has only enhanced my life that much more!
