Michael Vick, the world-renowned convicted animal abuser and NFL football star will appear on Oprah slated for Thursday, February 24th. It is to be his “first major interview”. I guess his 60 Minutes interview in the summer of 2009 doesn’t count. Hmm…interesting.
Do you think it wise that Oprah, the animal lover she is, have Vick on her show? She did, after all, do a show on puppy mills with Bill Smith of Mainline Rescue, Chester County, PA. In that show, the nation was able to get a look at the horrors and cruelty that exists in these “breeding facilities” where the moms and dads of puppies in pet stores are confined for life.
Do you think Oprah will ask the “hard” questions of the convicted felon? I’m not a fan nor a viewer of the Oprah show but I don’t believe Oprah conducts that style of interview. You tell me.
Before Oprah booked Vick for her show, she apparently had a bet with CNN’s Piers Morgan, to see who could interview him first. Here’s what happened with that according to Morgan:
Winfrey and Morgan had wagered 200 pounds (about $320 in the U.S.) on their race to book Vick. Oprah was set to win the bet earlier this week when she announced Vick would appear on her show on February 24. She dropped the friendly wager to stipulate to the wishes of Vick’s handlers, Morgan explains:
“Here’s what happened: I bet Oprah 200 pounds ($320.00) for this interview, and then a mysterious thing happened at the end of last week, where Michael Vick’s agent rang us both up and said, ‘He can’t be party to gambling so he’ll only do an interview with either of you if you withdraw the bet.’ At which point, Oprah, quick as lightning, gets straight on Twitter and says, ‘Dear Piers, I’m withdrawing the bet, I don’t know why I let you talk me into it, I still love you, Oprah.’
“The moment I saw that, I knew what that meant was, if she did that on Twitter, she was in the clear and she had him in the bag! You shouldn’t pick a fight with Oprah Winfrey, right?”
Betting to see who can get Vick first leads me to believe that the real motivator behind this interview is ratings.
We have heard from Vick. He has received alot of attention and positive attention lately. Are you interested in listening to Vick explain himself again? Can Oprah get any more answers out of him that 60 Minutes didn’t? Have you had enough of Michael Vick?
Will you watch? If so, why?
