A Taiwan veterinarian and director of the Animal Protection Education Park, Taoyuan City (shelter) took her own life after receiving backlash from a television interview from a year ago where she stated she euthanized 700 dogs in two years.
Jian Zhicheng told the reporter in the tv segment that the shelter was at full capacity and animals are euthanized after 12 days if not adopted.
The public was outraged and called her the “female butcher” and the “beautiful executioner.” These cruel criticisms were too much for the veterinarian. Reports state that she had already been depressed. She said she cried after her first day of work at the shelter. Choosing which animals you are forced to euthanize is extremely heartbreaking to face and painful to do.
Facing the cyber bullying online was too much for her to bear.
Zhicheng left a suicide note in which she said, ” A human life is no different from a dog’s ; I will die from the same drugs that we use to put dogs peacefully to sleep.
She died five days after she injected herself.
The irony and the saddest part of her tragic story is that Zhicheng was asking the public to adopt and not buy pets. She wanted people to save the lives of the dogs at the shelter. She was trying to help and all people heard was the number of dogs who were euthanized
Most shelters in the world are at near or full capacity. All advocates want people to adopt and not buy pets from stores or over the internet. There are bad shelters out there who need to be investigated or closed because they do euthanize instead of actively trying to find homes for the abandoned pets.
Jian Zhicheng was trying to save their lives. Instead, we and the animals lost a true friend in her.

This story literally breaks my heart to know a woman, a caring veterinarian who was trying to help Taiwan’s dogs , was called vile names hated what she did despite the problem stemmed from people abandoning the dogs. She was stuck cleaning up their mess and she gets crucified for trying to help the animals find homes. People sicken me. Her death and blood are on their hands. They should feel emotionally tortured for life.
She had to be weak to start to listen to a bunch of cyberbullies. She was doing good for animals and she gave those idiots what they wanted. Now the animals and her family don’t have her. The animals are still there being euthanized. I wish someone could have helped her. Reach out if you feel this way. When you work at a shelter, you will get burned out. Get help. Talk to others. Talk to professionals. We all feel this at some time. 🙁

It’s their culture for her to have done this. Bringing shame upon yourself is frowned upon. I guess she thought she let people and animals down. I wish someone would of told her that she did the opposite. She helped the animals. I wish people would stop criticizing those who do a lot to help animals instead of berating them. Try to do their job for one day and see how you could handle it. I couldn’t. It’s too sad,. rip

People are cruel to animals and they’re also cruel to people on the computer. They sit behind their computer screens and says all kinds of crap. They’re mean. It’s out of hand. Telling people to die shows something is wrong with the commenters. If they had faced her directly, they never would of said those things to her. We have become a hateful nation. It’s sad and wrong. It needs to stop. This woman was helping animals. People were too stupid to see it and refuse to read or listen to logical thinking. People are a#$%&^#@! You can fill in the blanks. I’m sorry but that’s how I feel.

People shouldn’t be allowed to tell people to die on the internet. Most of them are trolls anyway. This crap needs to stop. People are so concerned about kids being bullied. I’ve seen more adults bully other adults on social media. They’re grownups for pete’s sake. They are mentally sick to do this to another human being. What is anyone going to do about this bullying? A campaign would create awareness. I don’t know. This woman shouldn’t have listened to these trolls.
