Next Wednesday, September 26th (6:30 PM), my tv show- A Close-Up Look At Animal Welfare Issues- will be welcoming middle and high-school students from the Governor Mifflin School District. (You can view the show on Comcast- Ch. 13, Service Electric- Ch. 19, and Oley- Ch. 4.) You can streamline it live here.
I wanted to hear about students’ concerns and opinions about animal issues. With the help of Dominique Ulrich, Secondary Teacher at Governor Mifflin, five students were chosen based on essays they had written concerning their interests about animals.
I will be posting their essays in this forum until the day of the show. I believe you will be impressed as I am after reading their compositions. I encourage readers to offer feedback to these students for their insights and thoughts on their commentaries. Some of the articles you will be reading have been written by 7th and 8th graders. I’m very much looking forward to next week’s show with these bright, young students.
Let’s meet today’s essay author- 8th grader, Tamara L. Nelson.
Our pets often seem to know how we feel. They comfort us when we are hurt and make us happy when we are sad. They share our happiness and stay by our side when we need comfort.
Animals feel pain and fear like we do, but they are often helpless victims, because they cannot say what happened to them. For an example, Pit Bull fighting is still happening.
Vulnerable dogs are getting hurt when people use them for entertainment. Some people unjustly choose to abuse animals to release their anger!
We need you on our side! You don’t have to be a police officer, a lawyer, or a judge to battle animal cruelty! You just need to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves!
