UPDATE ~ Tune into this Sunday’s WRFY’s Reading-Berks Roundtable discussion with moderator, Nick Harris, when Kathy Walker, Vice- President of One by One Cat Rescue, Lynn Smith of Safe Cat Network and One by One, Dennis Straub, Reading Animal Control Board, and I will be disussing cats.
Since June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month, the four of us will be talking about the cat overpopulation that exists in the U.S. today. Millions of cats enter animal shelters each year and millions die each year. Locally, thousands of cats die each year and the problem is only getting worse. We are now in “kitten season” when animal shelters are inundated with mothers and kittens and most are euthanized to make room for more. This time of year is very stressful for the staff of animal shelters.
We will also discuss the feral cat population and the Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) Program that has proven to be successful in cutting down the number of these cats. Feral cats are cats that may have once been beloved pets that were tossed outside or just let go to roam free. They reproduce and bring more cats into the world and form colonies. It is not their fault but the fault of the irresponsible owners.
Tune in to find out how all of us can be a part of the solution to this ever-increasing problem. This program airs this Sunday, the 21st at 7AM on 102.5 FM or you can listen to it on their sister station, WRAW , 1340 AM @ 7:30 AM.
