Tiger Kills Man after He Climbs Fence into the Animal’s Enclosure Because He Didn’t Want to Pay for Ticket – Tiger is Shot Dead

On Saturday, January 28th, a man identified as Zhang, was mauled and killed by a tiger in its enclosure  after climbing a wall with a friend.   Zhang did not want to pay for a ticket to enter the zoo which is located on Dongqian Lake in eastern China’s Zhejiang province.

The tiger was shot and killed by local police.  Three other tigers were scattered with the use of firecrackers.  A video of the disturbing occurrence went viral.   A tiger can be seen chomping on his body as people watched in horror.   {{{{Warning: the video is extremely graphic and not suitable for everyone.  Please use discretion when watching.}}}}

The local government said Zhang, his wife,  their children, a friend and his wife went to the zoo on Saturday.  Zhang’s wife and children as well as his friend’s wife paid for tickets.   Zhang and his friend entered the zoo climbing a fence.   Zhang went through wire netting and climbed a wall entering the tiger enclosure.   His friend declined to go through the netting and climb the wall.

A tiger attacked and mauled Zhang in front of  horrified spectators who  can be heard screaming on the video.

The image (Australian Broadcasting Company) shows the man (blurred) during the attack.  Tigers circled him and the tiger.   The video has not blurred the man’s image.

A report by State television announced that one tiger was shot dead by local police.

Zhang died at the hospital.

This is the second case of a tiger mauling a person in China in recent months.  On July 23, 2016, a woman was brutally killed by a tiger at Beijing Badaling Wildlife World after she left the car she was traveling in after getting into an argument with one of the passengers as reports have claimed.

When the woman walked to the driver’s side, a Siberian tiger approached and dragged her away by the back.   The mother then left the car to help her daughter.   The mother was killed by another tiger and the daughter suffered serious injuries to her face and has nerve damage.   Employees of the park attempted to help both women after the attack.

Zhao and her mother’s husband have filed a lawsuit against Beijing Badaling Safari World for RMB1.54 million (USD223,506), as reported by Global Times.   Zhoa wants compensation for her injuries she sustained in the attack and for the loss of her mother.

Despite a government investigation clearing the park of wrongdoing, they were willing to compensate Zhao “out of our humanity,” said the park’s spokesperson, Cao Zhijie.  An amount has not been decided as of this date.

I would be remiss if I didn’t say how horrible and sad it is for all three people to have been mauled by tigers.  My condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the victims.

Having said that,  I have to ask why anyone would put their lives at such a high risk.   Entering a tiger almost ensures you will be mauled and most likely killed.     Was the man trying to commit suicide?  The investigation should reach a conclusion on this.    Once a tiger has you in its grip, it isn’t going to let go unless it is shot.   By then, it still may be too late.

Entering a tiger’s territory is seen as the enemy by a tiger.    Tigers attack from behind.   The woman who left her car had her back to the tiger as he snuck up on her.    Signs were posted warning people to stay in their cars at all times to protect them.    Fault lies with the first woman who walked around the car.

The takeaway from these brutal occurrences is to never be in an enclosure with a tiger.   Your chances of survival are slim as these two cases clearly illustrate.
