No, you’re not viewing seagulls near any ocean.
Yes, these birds migrated, in all likelihood, from the Atlantic ocean but are situated in Berks County, Pennsylvania. They have found refuge at parking lots, dumps, landfills and malls. They also are protected from predators.
I snapped this photo yesterday as I threw food to them.
They surrounded my car and waited in anticipation for the food.
Seagulls are known as scavengers. But, wait, these birds aren’t seagulls.
Huh?
According to the Game Commission, since these gulls aren’t near any sea, they aren’t sea gulls. There are different types of gulls. Those that fly around and wait for food in Berks County, PA, are ring-billed gulls named for the ring around their beak.
Why do they fly to Pennsylvania? According to Richard Bach, (author of the 1970 best-selling book “Jonathan Livingston
Seagull,”), “For most gulls, it’s not flying that matters, but eating.” And,
basically, that’s what brings them to Pennsylvania’s interior: food.
They are here to eat. It isn’t that they prefer Pennsylvania. It is convenient for them since the state is located conventiently between Atlantic Coast and the Great Lakes.
While some find them annoying, I think most people enjoy watching the flocks of gulls inhabitat our area.
The ring-billed gulls won’t be here much longer since the summer season and the boardwalk will be hustling and bustling with visitors who will be eating.
Enjoy them while you can.

I can’t stand all the poop these birds leave behind.

I love to feed the seagulls. They clamor all around me. It’s cool to watch them in action.

You’ve go to be kidding. Because they don’t live near a sea, they’re not seagulls. What are they when they live near oceans? Oceangulls?

There are many different kinds of gull birds. These are ring-billed gulls. Seagulls belong near a body of water. Yeah, that makes sense.

Is this for real? If it looks like a seagull, acts like a seagull, nine times out of ten, it’s a seagull!! The Game Commission is stretching that quite a bit. Don’t you think? They’ll be flying back to the shore real soon. Some already have.

They poop everywhere. 🙂

I prefer it when they’re at the beach rather than around here. lol
Last year at the beach, I was pooped on by one. I was not happy, but at least I was able to jump in the water to wash it off.
AS says
So when they’re at the beach, they’re seagulls, but when they come here they turn into a completely different species?? Lol makes sense.

This doesn’t make sense to me.
