Animal rescue scams have existed for a long time. There are so many animal rescues that exist to help homeless animals. Their objective is to always help the animals.
Scam rescues focus on money and it is gained at the cost of the animal, if the pet does, in fact, exist.
Due to social media, animal rescue scams have exploded over the internet and many of us can’t or don’t know who is real or fake. It is difficult to ascertain the true rescues from the scam artists, but there are red flags in which to notice the difference.
Join me as Ms. Hector will tell us how to recognize the red flags and what we can do about them.
They say knowledge is power and in this case, you need all the information you can grab so you, too, won’t be a victim of an animal rescue scam!

Loved the show. I have a question for your guest. Why can only rescues deal with no-kill shelters? I don’t get that. If they want to save animals, then why not save the ones where they’re going to be killed or have a good chance of being killed. That doesn’t add up for me. Other than that, I agree with what you two said. Thank you. Susan

Sorry for any confusion. That is not what I meant at all. Most worthy rescues do pull and save from kill shelters. What I meant to say was that the rescues themselves should have a no kill policy. ie they don’t kill for space, or any healthy or treatable animal themselves.

I have a question for your guest after watching your show. Is it legal to ask rescues for their financial information? How do you go about doing this? I have a question for a rescue I’ve been in touch with and some of what they say seems shady. What else can I do?

Anytime anyone asks you for money you have a right to know all about them and where your money is going. That holds even more so if it concerns living creatures. Also if they are a 501 c 3 then they legally have to provide you with info upon request. You can to look them up in guidestar.org as well. If they are a non profit they also incorporated as a non profit corporation in their state and you can find out more about them either at the Secretary of State’s office for Attorney General’s office for that state.
