I received the following email from my friend, Steven, who wrote so eloquently about remembering our “friends” who are out in the cold weather.
I was looking out my picture window at the snow and wondering about a white Christmas. As I was looking, I saw the birds rummaging through the snow for seeds that had fallen from the bird feeder and it got me to thinking – not only about them, or the 3 feral cats who visit us every day that we put food out for on our front porch, but about all the animals struggling to survive the bitter cold of winter. How trivial all my problems seem compared to their struggle just to survive another day and eke out a living amidst the snow and cold.
Since this is the Christmas season, the season of giving, let us not forget them. As we do our Xmas shopping, let’s stop and get a little suet log or seed bell for the birds. Instead of disposing our leftovers in the garbage, lets put them in an old pie tin and set them out for any animals to help them survive, hopefully in some kind of sheltered area where they can eat out of the harsh winds or snow. And when we all sit down to our Xmas feast, set just a little aside to give God’s creatures a special meal, just one special treat, to commemorate them this Dec. 25th. After all, was not Christ born in a manger among the animals? I think it would please Him to know we did this.

Reminder to all: Let us remember the dogs and cats stuck outside in this cold, bitter weather. Bring in your dogs and cats. If you see an animal without proper shelter, food and water, please call the proper authorities according to where you live. These animals depend on us, so we must be their voices.
