Radoslaw Artur Czerkawski, 37, was sentenced to 8 to 10 years in prison after he was convicted Monday, March 26th of 12 counts of animal cruelty in the sadistic death of a 1 1/2 year old female pit bull- mix dubbed “Puppy Doe” aka Kiya. At the sentencing phase of his trial on Tuesday, Czerkawski was also sentenced to two years’ probation and prohibited from owning or coming into contact with any animals. Czerkawski is also banned from volunteering at facilities that have animals of any kind.
It was in 2013 when a dog was found in August 2013 at a Quincy playground, Massachusetts, where she was unable to walk and barely alive. The cruelty “Puppy Doe/Kiya endured can only be described as barbarous, tortorous and some of the most brutal abuse an animal has ever endured.
Forensic veterinarian, Dr. Martha Smith-Blackmore who testified at the trial, said “what had been done to the dog was akin to medieval torture: her tongue was carved, her body burned, her eyes stabbed, her bones broken, and even the dog’s limbs were ripped from their joints, called being ‘drawn’ from limb to limb. “It’s a sick mind that can do this to an animal.” Kiya had to be euthanized the same night when found. Smith-Blackmore described the defendant as “a total freak.”
Czerkawski answered a “Free Dog” ad on Craigslist after her previous owners said their landlord would not allow a pit bull/type in their apartment. The previous owners had purchased Kiya for $200 on Craigslist.
This was the first case in Massachusetts to use DNA to link Kiya’s blood to blood found in Caerkawski’s house.
According to Czerkawski’s lawyers, they claim Kiva ran away and someone else was responsible for the torturous abuse.
Czerkawski has already been serving time in prison for unrelated larceny convinctions. He had stolen and cashed checks in the amount of $7,000 from a church where he was staying between January and April 2012 after telling the pastor he wanted to become a priest.
The convicted animal abuser is an illegal immigrant from Poland. He was in the U.S. with an expired tourist visa. When he is done serving all of his prison sentences, he will be deported. The Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey said the probation would not delay any removal from the U.S.
Is the sentence handed down to the depraved Czerkawski long enough? Kiya was starved, beaten, stabbed, burned and had her limbs were from her joints. The perverted abuse can come only from a sick mind. So in my opinion, he deserved more jail time for the ongoing sadistic and torturous nature of the abuse he inflicted upon Kiya. However, the prison sentence is much more appropriate than probation, a small fine or a slap on the wrist which is typical for animal cruelty cases. Very few receive jail time, let alone a significant prison sentence.
The 8 to 10 years given to Czerkawski should send a message that animals are sentient beings and abuse against them will be taken seriously in the courts. It’s about time and way past due! If we want animal abusers to receive harsher sentences, we must seek stronger animal cruelty laws across the nation. I’ve been advocating for this for a long time and finally we’re on the right track and we must keep moving forward.

Kiya forever ? says
He is a POS for what he did. I hope his buddies in prison teach him valuable lessons! He deserves whatever happens to him. He is demented and sick!

I believe there is something fundamentally wrong with Radoslaw Czerkawski to systematically abuse this dog on an ongoing basis. I don’t know about his past or what he learned about animals in his childhood but clearly he is a sadistic man.
Thank you.

Perhaps the other prisoners will give him a dose of what he’s done. Payback I believe in it! What a sick “man”!
Tina Evangelista-Eppenstein says
Yes, he is sick.
Thank you.

Lock him up and throw the key away! Never let him out! I can’t take animal abusers who don’t have to pay for what they’ve done. Our laws are antiquated, outdated and ridiculous.

Oh that poor dog. She didn’t deserve any of that. I don’t understand why people are so cruel to animals. I don’t get it. I never will. How can you hurt a dog who looks to you for everything? People should be required to have a license of their own to own a dog or cat. There should be some kind of requirement. People aren’t fit to have pets nor kids either.

About time! Should be in prison longer! Animal abusers make me sick!

NOT enough time for what they did!
