Out of the 111 animals rescued by the Pennsylvania SPCA at a Bernville farm where a cockfighting ring was busted last week, 44 now have found homes. 43 birds and one goat are living at their new homes. Three friendly dogs are still available for adoption.
Jesus Manuel Rodriguez, Jr., 31, of Reading, has been charged with 10 felony counts of cruelty to animals for ownership of dozens of fighting roosters. His arraignment was last Friday.
An investigation into other possible suspects involved continues.
Last Thursday, August 7th, the PSPCA busted a cockfighting ring at a Bernville farm, Berks County, PA. Hundreds of birds were found at the scene as well as cockfighting paraphernalia. Officers removed three dogs, a goat and horse. The horse and dozens of birds have not been signed over by the owner. The PSPCA will retain those animals pending litigation.
