Last week, a female Pitbull mix was discovered in the shallow water on the top of a waterfall at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. After the discovery, she fell to the base of the waterfall. (You can see the actual video of the dog’s struggle by clicking here.)
This 2 yr.old brave girl paddled for forty minutes while emergency rescue workers looked on, unable to do anything to save her. During this grueling process she wore her nails down nearly to the nailbed.
When her attempts failed and she went under the water, workers were able to rescue her limp body. She was revived by chest compressions and is doing well despite the near drowning. She is resting comfortably at the PSPCA. Her name is now appropriately named River. River will be up for adoption( she no ID tags or dog license) in October after all of the water in her lungs is gone.
What I find most disturbing is the fact that River has scars on her face and was most likely used in a dogfighting ring. The PSPCA believes she was used as a bait or a breeder dog. No one knows how she ended up at this waterfall. Some speculate she may have been thrown out , perhaps she was no longer producing or up to par in the dogfighting world.
It sure would be good for Michael Vick to speak up about this or speak to the youth in Philadelphia about the horrors of dogfighting. Oh yeah, that’s right, he’s too busy receiving standing ovations during football games! So sickening!
