A pit bull named “Flora” by the PSPCA was found hanged in a tree in by its neck raised only an inch off the ground leaving this poor dog to struggle a horrific death in a Philadelphia playground. “Flora” was only 1 year old or younger was found yesterday morning.
I read about this story from an email I recieved today in which Jen Utley, Chase Utley’s (Phillies baseball player) wife was part of a mass email calling on animal advocates to help end animal cruelty like “Flora’s”.
A reward of $3500 is being offered to catch the monster who committed this unspeakable and heinous act of animal cruelty.
The PSPCA is investigating and is asking for the public’s help in finding out what happened; although I don’t think understanding what happened is too difficult to understand.
The reward money will be given to whoever provides information leading to an arrest in this case. The Humane Society is offering $2,500 while the SPCA is offering an additional $1,000.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Pennsylvania SPCA toll-free cruelty hotline at 866-601-7722.
I don’t think the question is why or how this atrocious act of cruelty was perpetrated against an innocent dog anymore. I feel animal advocates and leaders in animal welfare need to not only discuss the reasons but devise a plan to reach people, somehow, so these acts aren’t repeated. PLUS, we must apply the right punishment for animal cruelty offenders. No more slaps on the wrist. We have to break this vicious cycle. This is completely unacceptable anymore, in my opinion.
Have any ideas how we can stop another person from killing innocent animals?
