Oprah devoted an entire show to puppymills earlier this year with Bill Smith from Mainline Rescue, Chester County and Wayne Pacelle from the Humane Society of the United States as her guests.
When I had seen Bill at the candlelight vigil this past August for the 80 puppymill dogs who were shot and killed , he had told me that Oprah may do an update on the situation. He told me Oprah was looking for a change in the puppymill situation to do another show.
As we know much has happened since that show aired. And this week, the House will hopefully get down to business. Governor Rendell is quoted as saying during a conference call with Pennsylvania Newspaper Association Foundation Members this past Wednesday, “I think the dog law can be passed in a couple of hours. We all know what needs to be done”.
There are only NINE voting days left this fall, it seems like an uphill battle considering the opposition and the 100 amendments added to House Bill 2525 before the last session convened for the summer.
If the House Bill 2525 gets voted unanimously, it must clear the Senate before it goes before Rendell. PLEASE call your legislators NOW. All you have to do is to type in your zip code in the upper right hand corner and it will give your Representative’s name and contact information. This is not impossible but we have to do our part. This is the closest we have been to actually changing the law for these poor dogs. If it doesn’t happen, the whole process will have to begin again in January with the new session.
Getting back to Oprah, I’m not sure when the update will air. As soon as I know I will list the date. If you hear of the date before me, feel free to share with us.
