Last night, K-9 Officer, Shultz, pictured, was killed in a horrific manner while trying to chase down one of two men who robbed a Chinese restaurant in Gloucester Township, New Jersey.
Schult and his partner, Cpl. Pickard, were called to the scene of the robbery. Schultz picked up the scent and was released to track and chase one of the men involved in the robbery.
Somehow, Schultz was picked up and thrown into traffic on Rt. 42 South and killed instantly.
Shultz served with the Gloucester Police Department for nearly 3 1/2 yrs.
Police Officers as well as Officer Pickard’s family lined up outside of the Chews Landing Veterinary Hospital where Shultz was taken late last night to pay tribute to the fallen officer.
The flag draped coffin carrying the body of Shultz is loaded into an ambulance outside the Chews Landing Veterinary Hospital.
Police do have a man in custody but aren’t sure if he is the one responsible for Shultz’s death.
Shultz was a police officer. I hope the same law applies to a K-9 Officer as it would to a human officer. Police dogs put their lives on the line every day to protect their partners and people. Let’s hope the person responsible receives the right punishment for his crime.
I have and will always be a huge supportive of any police K-9 Unit. I offer my deepest condolences to Officer Pickard and his family and to the Gloucester Police Department for losing one of its own.
Update- A second suspect has been taken into custody. No charges have been announced as of this time.
