Lloyd, a Lhapsa Apso, was taken in by members of Puppy Mill Awareness Day this past Saturday at a veterinarian’s office when his owner was going to have him euthanized. The owners agreed to surrender him to PMAD for $50.00. This was the horrible condition in which he was found. According to Sandra Stegman of PMAD, Lloyd was surrendered to our rescue by an individual who was going to euthanize him. He was no longer wanted after they provided hardly any care to him for 3 years. They left me a message. It said, “Please love him.”
After four hours, yes, four hours of grooming- underneath the severe and horrendous matting of hair on this poor Lloyd’s body – it was discovered that he has a severed Achilles tendon.
The mats were so severe, they cut Lloyd’s skin causing the severed Achilles tendon. Can you imagine the pain Lloyd had to deal with on a daily basis? His toenails were so long they curled under. I personally have witnessed other dogs whose hair was so matted that the hair felt as hard as a rock. I can only assume Lloyd’s hair was quite similar after viewing all of the photos. The torment he endured is unspeakable.
Because of the severity of Lloyd’s injury, he is going to need extensive medical care and most likely amputation of his leg, according to Sandra. PMAD is reaching out for donations for Lloyd’s care. PMAD is a 501C3 and all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Donations can be made through paypal pupmillad@aol.com or clicking the donate button on PMAD’s homepage. You can make a donation by mailing a check to:PMAD988 W. Veterans HwyJackson, NJ 08527
I know the organizers of PMAD and let me tell you firsthand, they are the real thing. They sincerely care about these animals. They are the ones who are the original creators of puppy mill awareness day in the US because they wanted to make a difference in the lives of animals. And they have!
If you read my blog on a regular basis, you know I don’t normally plead for money but this is an exceptional case. I believe in PMAD and what they’re accomplishing. Unfortunately, this is a very costly endeavor and they need our help. Won’t you please search your heart and donate to Lloyd’s cause?
Here is Lloyd after his painful four hour grooming session.
I hope the previous owners are charged with animal cruelty to allow a dog to live like this for three years. “Please love him” they said. Don’t worry, Lloyd is already loved by so many. My question to them: Why couldn’t you love him?
