Once again, One by One Cat Rescue had to literally come to the rescue of eight kittens stuffed into fruit boxes. This is a repeat performance for this organization when a striking similar incident happened the other year. This time the fruit box was discovered at a farm near the shelter.
Some of these kittens are sick, extremely thin and their coats are in poor condition, according to Deb Hauptmann of 1 by1.
Kathy Walker, VP of 1by1, has told me all of the kittens are in foster care and being taken care of properly.
Here is some information provided by Kathy about these kittens:
1 red tiger male – very sweet – very quiet – URI (upper respiratory infection)
1 terrified silver tabby – hiding – health seems ok.
1 silly torti with a head tilt, badly infected ear (being treated)
URI – VERY SWEET!
1 little Hazel – shy but friendly – slight URI – watery eyes.
1 little Hazel #2 – very sweet – outgoing- slight URI.
1 black male – SWEET – out going (probably the torti’s sibling – same
Personalities).
The kittens with the URI’s are currently on antibiotics. Ironically very few fleas were found on the kittens when they were flea combed.
If you can help out with these kittens……..you would be doing a great service.
Their phone number is 484-839-2019. You an email them at info@1by1catrescue.org.
You can also correspond with them by snail mail at One by One, PO Box 226, Kutztown, PA 19530.
One by One does not receive any federal, state or local money to help with their mission of rescuing, fostering and adopting cats. This organization truly is made up of dedicated people who work very hard to help the unwanted, abandoned and homeless cats not only of Berks County but beyond. They really need our help.
I know money is tight these days but if you could spare some money to help these kittens, which by the way, will never be euthanized, it would be greatly appreciated by 1by1.
As I stated earlier, this is not the first time this has happened. Seems like a repeat performance by the same people over the years. And if you can believe it, one of the 5 month old kittens may be pregnant! GRRRR!!
Seriously, what are people thinking? Why do they think it is okay to dump any animals in a fruit box anywhere? It’s okay to not have your female cat spayed and have kittens and dump them off in a fruit box in hopes of someone finding them.
If you have an answer to that, please share because I don’t understand the rationale behind this logic.
More importantly, please, if you can, help One by One.
