Back in 2008, when Mitt Romney was seeking the Republican nominee for President (and failed), a story emerged about his family taking a vacation from Massachusetts to Ontario, with their dog, Seamus (pronouned Shay-mus), strapped in a crate to the roof of the car. I, as many others, were appalled by the actions of the Romney’s. Who, in their right mind, places an animal, a pet at that, on top of a roof unless it is most likely a culled deer during hunting season?
During the 650-mile trip- yes 650 miles- one of the sons took notice of excrement flowing down the window of the car. They stopped and washed Seamus, the carrier and the car and proceeed with Seamus back on top of the car.
One doesn’t have to be a rocket scientist to know what an incredidly stupid act this was but the Romney’s defend their incredulous actions to this day.
This happened three decades ago and the story won’t go away especially among animal advocates. If I was Romney’s political publicist, I wouldn’t have a presidential nominee nor his wife state that their dog enjoyed being strapped to the roof of a stationwagon. I would have Romney apologize for recognizing his ignorance and stupidity on this matter. But they stick by their story. Mistake.
David Axelrod tweeted a photo of Obama and his dog, Bo, to show how a person travels with their pet. Politics. Don’t you love it?
Romney is not alone when it comes to stupidity and animals.
Now we have Obama. First, he promised voters in the last election he would adopt a dog from a shelter once elected. A promise he broke to the dismay and dissatisfation of those who believed him. So much so, that a petition was created to ask Obama to adopt a second pet from a shelter. Whether or not Obama knew about this doesn’t matter since he and his wife never searched for that second pet.
Now to the latest. Last weekend at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, Obama made many references to dogs during his monologue. In his memoir, he made mention of the fact he ate dog as a child. Of course, this was fodder for Romney and political pundits alike.
But what angers me was the following he stated while delivering his “stand-up routine” during this dinner:
“Do you know the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull (in reference to Sarah Palin)? A pitbull is delicious….with a little soy sauce.” Very classy president. Sarcasm most definitely intended. If you check out the video clip, you’ll notice how the guests laughed at his “joke.” I didn’t find it remotely funny!
If that had been Romney, the press would have been unrelenting with attacks on him. But not, Obama.
Both of these men are out of touch with reality. I know people are outraged by both of these men and their actions concerning animals. It also appears they could care less that many animal lovers, guardians, and advocates take these matters seriously and consider these incidences when voting. Wake up presidential nominees!!
Who has less class? Obama or Romney? You tell me.
