I received word that Elsie (pictured above) who had been missing for ten days is finally back home, safe and sound, according to her “mom” Cheryl.
Elsie has had a quite a life in her short 2-3 yrs. here on earth. She had been placed in a dumpster by her previous owner with her mouth “rubber banded shut with several large bands which made her lips grow into her gums and her teeth protrude”. Surgery was required and she had to eat from a dropper and finally was able to eat semi-hard food.” .
With her latest adventure when she disappeared on June 27, Cheryl had been understandably heartbroken since Elsie was missing. She had contacted me for help to post about her missing dog. And of course, I wanted to help reunite Elsie with her family in any way that I possibly could. My husband and I had also gone into the Shillington area to search for Elsie where she was last seen which was near the Shillington pool and Mifflin Center. But, no Elsie was to be found.
Luckily, this story has a happy ending!
Last evening I received word from Cheryl about Elsie. Yesterday at 3 AM, Cheryl’s other dog, a Jack Russell, went crazy. He was howling, scratching at the door, head butting their patio door! Cheryl’s husband goes to see what is happening. And yes you guessed it. Elsie found her way back home after 10 days on the run!! Can you believe it?
Cheryl said Elsie is in “pretty good condition”. Her white fur is now brown (I’m sure she got a bath by now) but no fleas, ticks were to be found. Only burrs. They also believe she has tree sap on her back.
I am so happy that Elsie found her way back home. But I wonder what she was doing while on the run and how she found her way back home. Guess we’ll never know.
I have a sneaking suspicion Elsie won’t go on any further adventures!
As I told Cheryl, I’ve been there with my own dog, Buddy, who ran away from my dad’s home while he was dog-sitting for us. He was a white poodle (never acted like a poodle) who had been rescued from the streets of Reading by my husband and me. We took him to the Humane Society to see if anyone would claim him. Of course, I fell in love with him. I visited him everyday. When no one came forward, I adopted him immediately!
Buddy had quite an adventure for almost a week. He was spotted at the Shoemakersville Rod and Gun Club running back and forth while people were target shooting. He evaded everyone until he could no longer walk. He found his way into someone’s garage- exhausted , grungy and full of burrs. But our fliers we placed everywhere caught the attention of the family where Buddy was found.
I am so glad Elsie is back home not only for Elsie’s sake but for the sake of her family who truly was heartbroken over her disappearance.
Very happy for you, Cheryl!
