Two former Vick dogs finally looking peaceful!
Vick was invited by the Bay Area Lovers Responsible about Pitbulls (Bad Rap) advocacy group that took in ten of Vick’s dogs to visit these dogs. Vick said no. And I’m going to agree with Vick’s decision most likely to the chagrin of animal lovers.
Tim Racer, co-founder of Bad Rap said the following to Vick’s decision: “We understand Vick is trying to right his wrongs and is very interested in redemption but you can’t find redemption without acknowledging your victims…….
With all due respect to Mr. Racer……and believe me, I feel Bad Rap has done a tremendous job rehabilitating these dogs………I don’t agree with this assumption for redemption.
Vick and his cohorts tortured and killed these former dogfighters. Female dogs were placed in rape stands to be bred. One of the female dogs had all of her teeth removed so she couldn’t fight the males off while on the rape stand. You and I can only imagine what these dogs endured repeatedly and for how long.
These dogs were scared to death and some were aggressive when first taken into custody for a long, long time after Vick’s arrest. I know some still have issues but perhaps some can never be fully rehabilitated.
Many of these dogs had to learn to trust humans, most likely for the first time in their lives. I have read what these organizations have done and to what extent they have helped these dogs.
To allow the perpetrator to see his victims does not make sense even though this is what Mr. Racer feels would help to make amends to the dogs themselves. I respectfully disagree.
Tell me how this would make amends with the dogs. This equates placing a rape victim in a room with her rapist so the rapist can make amends even if this brings back nightmares that the woman wants desperately to forget. Perhaps she can forgive, but one never forgets the torture endured as a rape victim. It should be and is up to the rape victim if she wants to meet her rapist, not the other way around.
These dogs only felt pain, tasted blood, and were brutalized by this man. Why on earth would any one of them want to be in the same company as him? What if they recgonize this man and regress in their behavior after all of the good work that has been accomplished?
I hope Vick is learning and teaching the youth about the atrocities of dogfighting and hopefully discouraging them from engaging in the same horrific practice. But to be around the victims he tortured- no , that does not work for me.
These dogs have come a long way and they deserve only happiness and joy and to be loved. They don’t deserve- wait- let me rephrase that- Vick doesn’t deserve to be around these formerly tortured dogs!
