One of the dogs who survived that fateful day
“An Amish kennel owner, David Yoder, in Romulus, New York has pleaded guilty to inhumane destruction of animals for using a makeshift gas chamber to euthanize dogs with carbon monoxide.”
“A federal report says 45-year-old David Yoder of Romulus euthanized 78 dogs and 15 puppies by putting several at a time into a wooden box and piping in engine exhaust.”
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office charged Yoder after an SPCA worker came across the U.S. Department of Agriculture report.
Yoder pleaded guilty Friday in Romulus Town Court. He has been fined $300 and will also have to pay a $205 state surcharge.
Yoder told investigators he believed his method of euthanizing dogs was “humane”. The USDA report says Yoder was told to have a veterinarian destroy unwanted dogs in the future.
Fined only $505.00!! How could this man only be fined a tiny amount of money for committing a crime? A crime that is unspeakable.
This Saturday, October 16th, a “Procession of Sorrow” will be held at 3PM followed by a candlelight vigil to remember the 93 dogs/puppies that were so inhumanely killed by this man. This is to be a peaceful protest that will begin at the Beverly Animal Shelter with a motorcade that will pass other known puppy mills in the area including Yoder’s mill. I hope to attend.
Did you know it is still legal to use gas chambers in PA to kill animals in shelters? This form of “euthanization” is cruel, barbaric and antiquated. This mass killing reminds me of Ammon and Elmer Zimmerman of Maxatawny Township in PA when they killed 80 dogs by gunshot back in 2008. I attended that vigil as well.
On my next tv show (Wed., Oct. 27th, 6:30PM), I will be discussing the use of gas chambers in the state of PA with Steven Hoover, Political Administrator of Animal Law Coalition. SB906 would outlaw the use of gas chambers in PA. We will be discussing that bill and where it stands in the Senate.
I find this completely outrageous that people can get away with killing animals so inhumanely or having to kill them at all. Why did Yoder find it necessary to create a makeshift gas chamber when he could have had them euthanized humanely by a veterinarian? Same as the Zimmermans? What possesses these people to take these drastic measures to destroy man’s best friend?
