I was pleasantly surprised to read an article of someone who is trying to save the lives of stray dogs in his borough instead of calling animal control services to pick them up.
This person is Mayor Roy Del Rosario (pictured above) of Hamburg. He has been picking up strays for the last 10 years. He holds them in a pen that was provided by the late Hamburg K-9 Officer, John Ayello.
Granted, he doesn’t take in many dogs but he wants to make it more practical for the citizens of Hamburg to pick up their strays in the borough instead of driving all the way to the Animal Rescue League which is approximately a 35 minute drive.
I feel Mayor Del Rosario is saving lives with his good deed. And for that, I give him credit for helping with the overabundance of animals that the ARL has to deal with on a daily basis. At least he’s trying…….any small contribution that helps to alleviate the current and ongoing situation at the ARL by any township or municipality deserves credit.
