Guitarist and singer, John Mayer, is helping some animals in need after he made a bet with TMZ. He challenged (via Twitter) the editor of TMZ, Harvey Levin, that he couldn’t produce a copy of his mug shot taken in 2001. Mayer said he would give $25,000.00 to an animal charity if that mug shot (pictured above) was found.
After TMZ and the Smoking Gun each produced his mug shot, Mayer made good on his promise and split the amount to two animal rescue organizations- Pet Orphans of Southern California and Ace of Hearts of Los Angeles. All I can say is yay!
This bet began as a result of Patrick Stump of music group, Fall Out Boy, being arrested in LA for driving without a driver’s license resulting in his mug shot dispersed all over the internet. Mayer said he had been arrested in 2001 for the same offense. Mayer then concocted this great idea.
And so Mayer tweeted about the challenge. And for a great cause. I hope more celebrities follow his lead! I do believe there are quite a few celebrities who could put their mug shots (for better or worse, mug shots, that is!) to good use too. Don’t you?
