Georgia, former Michael Vick dog, relaxing at Dogtown
Ellen DeGeneres will have John Garcia, Manager of Dogtown, located at Best Friends Society, Utah and Georgia as her guests today at 3 PM on CBS. If you have followed the Michael Vick case, you know he is serving time in a federal prison for the dogfighting ring he bankrolled on his property in Virgina.
22 of those dogs were taken to Dogtown to be rehabilitated. Some say it couldn’t be done. Dogtown now has a show on the Discovery Channel which I have seen. I was very touched by the work these dedicated people have done for these dogs that were treated so horribly.
Best Friends is the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the United States. I have subscribed to their magazine years ago and have only heard positive things about them. I would like to travel to see this popular vacation spot. People spend their vacations at Best Friends and help out with the animals. It is an amazing place.
Getting back to Georgia who was rescued from Vick’s place ~Georgia came to Dogtown not trusting anyone. All of her teeth had been pulled so she could be forcibly bred . Her tail was broken several times and had many litters. The staff worked with her and she is now a very loving, trusting dog who loves to have her belly rubbed, play with her toys and loves just being a dog.
I know many can’t tune in for this program including me but you can see a clip of today’s show when you click over to Ellen’s website (above). And they say you can’t rehabilitate a pitbull who has been used for dogfighting. It wasn’t easy but I have nothing but admiration for the people who accomplished this unbelievable task and saved their lives.
