Tomorrow, in Room 4B (9:30AM) in the Berks County Courthouse, Judge Timothy Rowley will be presiding over an emergency hearing which was filed by Pennsylvania Humane Society Police Officer, Johnna Seeton. The intention of the hearing is to prevent Winge Pointe Hunting Resort-home of the infamous Berks County pigeon shots-from holding any more live pigeon shoots that cause massive animal cruelty, according to animal organization, SHARK.
Officer Seeton states, “These shoots are clear violations of PA Law and empowered by the lack of action by the PA State Police and Berks County District Attorney, John Adams, the pigeon shooters’ behavior has only become more brazen and depraved.”
Winge Pointe Hunting Resort is located in Shoemakersville on Rt. 662, Perry Township, Berks County, PA. The Philadelphia Gun Club, Bucks County, PA, has been cited by Officer Seeton as well for animal cruelty. The last charges of animal cruelty filed by Seeton against the PGC were dismissed by Buck County’s DA, David Heckler.
Recent videotape shown at a press conference held by SHARK’s Stu Chaifetz along with Officer Seeton in Harrisburg a couple of weeks ago showed how shooters treat the pigeons and depict clear cases of animal cruelty, according to SHARK.
The footage, which can be viewed here, shows pigeons being stomped, kicking injured birds with some being kicked into the air for the sole purpose of shooting them, injured birds being picked up and thrown hard to the ground, a man picking up a wounded bird and repeatedly smashing it against his boot until the bird literally exploded, one bird was so violently thrown into the brush that some of its body parts were ripped off. The video also shows emaciated birds as a result of lack of food and water for days prior to the shoot which is commonplace. SHARK has documented Winge Pointe’s pigeon shoots via videotape for years to showcase the cruelty that is
Because the Pennsylvania State Police and Berks County District Attorney, John Adams, have refused to take action against Winge Pointe after being presented evidence of animal cruelty, Officer Seeton hopes to stop Winge Pointe through this injunction from inflicting any more cruelty against these defenseless birds.
