Kay Lynn Watson….. a special friend to animals who passed away March 5th at the tender age of 21.
I met Kay while working at the Animal Rescue League. In 2007 I interviewed her for an article about her inspirational story that I felt should be shared with others.
What made Kay so special wasn’t that the fact that she had a rare, genetic, progressive neurological disease ~ Ataxia Telangiectasia (AT). It was her determination and her tenacious spirit that made her shine so brightly in spite of her disease.
After speaking with her I was so touched and inspired by her strength and courage, I was genuinely affected by this young woman. She was one of those people one never forgets. And I never have.
Kay did not allow this disease to stop her from fulfilling her desire to help animals. Even though she was wheelchair-bound, it didn’t stop her from helping the cats at the shelter. I remember her favorite part of volunteering was playing and socializing with the cats. She couldn’t wait to finish her duties of cleaning and feeding so she could hold the cats and kittens.
I asked Kay if there was one message she wanted to share with others, she replied “No matter what your situation, try your hardest”. And Kay, you exemplified that to the fullest- you not only lived up to that motto, you inspired others with that motto, including me.
I feel so priveleged to have known you.The world is a sadder place without you in it.
Rest in Peace, Kay.
