Hyrum Long, pictured, pled not guilty this past Monday in court to first-degree aggravated animal abuse, a felony, for the horrific manner in which he killed a family pet. Long used a hammer to hit his daughter’s dog, Molly, on the head to “euthanize” her last month.
Long has stated that he thought Molly was dead when he buried her. Long admits he made a mistake but had wanted to put the sick dog out of her misery. Long and Johnson believed she had cancer but no signs of the disease were evident during a necropsy.
Long said he wanted to put Molly out of her misery quickly. He also said he should have checked more closely to make sure she was dead.
Two questions for Long ~ how on earth did you think you were putting Molly out of her misery quickly when you and your daughter allowed her to suffer for God knows how long before that fateful day? The necropsy proved she suffered from chronic starvation and hadn’t eaten for close to a week? She suffered from a skin disease that wasn’t treated as pictures have shown. How long did Molly have to suffer like this? And you feel hitting her on a head to kill her was the quickest manner in which to ease her suffering? On which planet do you live?
Secondly- if you thought Molly was dead (although you said you should have checked more closely), why did you and your daughter, Susan Johnson, bury her vertically up to her neck leaving her head exposed? That makes no sense. Why wouldn’t you bury her entire body on her side? You and your daughter’s explanations don’t add up.
