Meet Hoagy. A true hero! This five year old Labrador mix was hiking with his “parents” in California’s Cleveland National Forest when they came upon a mountain lion this past Tuesday.
The mountain lion charged and attacked them. Hoagy, not wasting a moment, jumped into action. He charged the mountain lion. The attack lasted less than 10 seconds and Hoagy suffered severe injuries. However, after four hours of surgery to his left side, Hoagy was up and walking around. He wears an Elizabethan collar so he won’t chew at his sutures.
He should make a full recovery. Not so sure about his “parents” who said they will never go back to the area.
The mountain lion hasn’t been seen since the incident but will be killed if caught. I guess my only thought is – how will they know it’s the same mountain lion.
The irony of this story is that Hoagy was on death row at a shelter when adopted by this couple. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, shelter animals make the best pets!! Hoagy’s life was spared by this couple and now he spared their lives! Way to go, Hoagy!!
