Tis the season for kittens, once again. Yes, it’s that time of the year when shelters and rescues become completely full as the high influx of mothers and their offspring kittens take up residence in their cat rooms, cages and colonies. Shelter/rescue workers not only have their hands full but their minds as well. Sadly, most will not survive. Even though we live in a nation where more homes have cats than dogs, the majority of cats and kittens entering these places will never leave alive. Think of the unbearable stress placed upon workers who have no choice but to euthanize because of irresponsible people.
June is Adopt-A-Cat-Month (which should be every month), and the Hillside SPCA has an offer you can’t refuse: NO FEE ADOPTION ON SPAYED AND NEUTERED CATS FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH OF JUNE.
Of course, adopters must fill out an adoption contract and meet any requirements set by shelter. Hillside SPCA is located in Schuylkill County, not far from the Berks County line.
Their phone number is 570-622-7769. They are open seven days a week.
You can’t get a better deal than this plus you will be saving a life and think of the rewards you will receive in return. Hillside is full and they need to find good homes for these frisky felines.
Won’t you please be part of the solution and not the problem? Adopt and save a life!
Kitten Season Facts:
Kitten season is the unofficial name for the mating season for cats and is assumed to last between March and November. I’m sure with the mild winter we’ve had, it started earlier. I’ve seen it happen already.
An unspayed female cat will go into heat every three weeks. Get your cat spayed or neutered. Stop this madness!! Be responsible!
Average litter size can be four to six kittens.
One female cat can possibly have 18 kittens during one season.
A female cat can start as early as four months getting pregnant while their nursing mothers can get pregnant while they’re still in that stage.
There are too many kittens and their mothers and not enough people to provide homes. Remember, the majority of any cats and kittens you see in a kill shelter will not leave alive but placed in a garbage bag to be cremated or dumped elsewhere!
