I wish every mother a fantastic Mother’s Day this Sunday. Being a mom has to be one of the most rewarding experiences in a woman’s life. I have no children (except if you count my dogs Shadow and Jazz and I do!) and since my mother died when I was a teenager, I wanted to remember all of the puppymill moms who are stuck in their cages 24/7 year after year breeding every heat cycle in order for their owners to make a profit.
Their lives are not rewarded, only tormented by being forced to “pump out” puppies that are sold in pet stores. Did you know an estimated four million puppies are born each year in the United States who are bred in these commercial establishments?
And so many of these puppies end up having health issues and die at very early ages due to chronic breeding and inbreeding. People pay huge sums of money to buy a mixed breed puppy at a pet store while other mixed breed and purebred puppies and dogs can be found at any shelter waiting for someone to give them a second chance.
I ask people to not forget about these puppymill moms and dads who live a life of misery in these places for the sole purpose of turning a profit.
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary has a campaign to help fight against puppymills and educate the public on this issues. You can buy the bracelet (pictured above) to show your support to get rid of puppymills. It reads- “I’m tired of puppymills.” Each costs $10.00 and half of the proceeds goes to the Best Friends campaign to fight puppymills.
The best act you can do to help puppymill dogs- Adopt- Don’t Shop!!
Happy Mother’s Day!
