As much as my husband and I like to drive, there is one peculiar scene we keep seeing along the highways and country roads. Dead deer. It is so strange to see so many killed along these roads at this time of year.
You are more apt to see dead deer during the fall when male deer are in the rut season, a.k.a. mating season. The male deer are seeking to find a doe to breed and in that process many are pushed and run away. Subsequently, deer run into oncoming traffic. Deer are killed and cars are wrecked. I should know. It happened to me twice!
But I just can’t figure out why we’re seeing so many deer at this time of year. What is even sadder to me is that the birth of fawns occur during the months of May and June. Sadly, many fawns are left without a mother.
What is happening to our deer in Berks County?
