I want to wish all mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day! It is a day to honor all mothers that can find its origins dated to 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day a national holiday.
While I am not a mother to human children, I have two very special “sons”, Shadow and Jazz, to celebrate this day. And I feel so fortunate to have Shadow with me on this Mother’s Day. Shadow is recovering well from pneumonia that he contracted a few weeks ago. Not knowing if Shadow was going to live to watching him get that spark in his eyes and pep in his step is an absolute thrill for me!
While I can celebrate this day with my “sons”, it is a bittersweet day for me since my own mother and my sister, who was a mother, are not here to be honored. They may be gone but never forgotten! Happy Mother’s Day, Mom and Teresa!
I would like to take this opportunity to honor the mothers who work so hard for their children. Those who inspire and teach them to be better people in this crazy, mixed-up world. You have a hard and hopefully rewarding job in raising your children. We need more good mothers to teach their children to respect animals. Being kind to animals starts in the home. I applaud all who teach their children the meaning of respect toward our pets.
But I also want to thank those women who not only work so diligently for their human children but those, and there are so many, who work on behalf of animals. The animal welfare field, by far, consists of mostly women. So I honor all of you on this day for the tremendous work you on behalf of all animals. I can’t begin to thank you for all that you do to make this world a better place for animals!!! Kudos to all of you!
And last but certainly not least, I can’t forget about the mother dogs and cats who live their entire lives in puppy and kitten mills so greedy people can make a profit at their expense. To these mothers, just know you are not forgotten on this day or any other. So many of us are working hard so you do not have to live out your tortured life inside a tiny cage left to nurse litter after litter until your poor little body can’t take it anymore. Some of you never see the light of day. Some of you are injured so badly. Some have lost eyes, paws have been chewed off, some have a metal pipe shoved their throats so they don’t bark and some just die because their bodies are completely worn out. Some have never known the kind touch of a human.
For them, this is not a happy mother’s day. For them, it is another day of hell!
Just know, there are so many of us working on behalf of you and you will never be forgotten.
