This day is to encourage adopting shelter/rescue pets. It’s also about spreading awareness of shelters and their animal issues. It’s also about recognizing the amazing work the good shelter and rescues do for the abandoned and surrendered pets that are waiting for new forever homes. Not all shelters are created equal. And with social media, it seems there’s always a rescue popping up and asking for donations.
Always research shelters and rescues!! Be sure they are legitimate before giving money.
Now how can you make a companion pet’s life better. Here are a few ideas:
ADOPT!!! Adopting a pet is one of the most rewarding things you can do! Make sure you adopt a pet that is suitable to your lifestyle and needs. Make sure you have the time to give to a companion pet. Too many pet are returned because they aren’t wanted. Remember this is a long-term commitment.
Volunteer your time to help with shelter animals. Whether it’s walking a dog or spending time with a pet to helping out with the staff at the shelter, there is always something to do at a shelter or rescue.
Foster an animal until they find a forever home. Many foster parents become “failures” at this because they end up adopting the pet!! 🙂
Donate money or items. Inquire about what a rescue needs.
