Max is one lucky dog. He could be the poster “child” for the dog days of summer”.
Max’s mom, Donna Gardner, from the Upper Macungie area needed to run an errand and took Max with her on her trip. When she came home, she proceeded into her home and began to clean it.
She heard a car horn. She looked outside. Saw nothing. Went back inside and heard the honking again. Donna went outside again.
And there Max was- sitting in the front seat behind the steering wheel. Max, an 11 yr. old Lab had been in the car for awhile. Donna immediately took him inside where he collapsed and placed cold, wet rags on his body.
Max was taken to the vet and is said to be okay.
BUT, had it not been for Max honking on the horn, he would have been another statistic of pets who have died while in parked cars during the dog days of summer.
If you watch the video attached to the above link, to me it is very obvious that Max is very much loved by Donna and it was a sad mistake that he was inadvertently left in the car. The vet even stated that Donna is a good pet owner. But, some people feel should be fined for what she did. I guess they’re wondering how anyone could leave a big dog like Max in a car.
We’ve all heard the horrible stories about parents leaving children in parked cars without realizing it. And the end result was the loss of life of that innocent child.
I’m not a mother……not to a human child, that is…….but I’ve always had dogs and I do take them with me on excursions. Not once have I forgotten that they were with me. I’m trying to understand how anyone could forget that either a child or a pet is in their vehicle with them.
Donna Gardner said she will never make that mistake again and she admits she doesn’t know how she forgot about him in the car.
Max is one lucky dog to have survived. A car’s temperature can rise to above 100 degrees in minutes. Trust me, I ran an experiment to find out.
What do you think? How does one forget that a child or pet is in your car?
Your thoughts?
Don’t forget……if you see a child or pet left alone in a parked car for a certain period of time, don’t hesitate to call your local police or animal shelter. It literally could mean the difference between life and death!
