Molly – 14 yr. old Yellow Labrador Retriever buried alive
This past Friday afternoon in Forest Grove, Oregon, neighbors of Hyrum Long and his daughter ,Susan Johnson, heard yelping coming from outside. Upon investigation, they found a dog’s head protruding from the ground. This dog, Molly, was able to get her head out of the ground after being bludgeoned in the head by a hammer by Mr. Long. Mr. Long thought she was dead and buried her ~ ALIVE! He said he thought he hit her pretty good and she died. Two police officers pulled her out of the ground while animal control officers took her to the Oregon Humane Society.
After his daughter, Susan Johnson, made sure she was “dead” and “cried” over Molly’s dead body, she and Long went out to dinner. She said in a tv interview that she had no money to take Molly to the vet to be euthanized. She said she was out of work and had two kids in school. Hyrum Long is caring for his wife who has suffered a stroke.
She said Molly had been suffering from a disease for awhile and this was their solution to euthanizing her. In the tv interview (see below), Johnson said she has no credit cards and no vet would euthanize her dog for free. But, did she ever ask? She also never said she attempted to take Molly to a shelter to have her euthanized. Yeah, I know how it works when you have to euthanize your pet. When I had to euthanize my dog very suddenly one morning, I had to make sure I had to pay up front. I just don’t believe that a veterinarian nor a shelter would not have worked with her knowing the family’s financial situation and the declining health of Molly. No decent veterinarian could have stood idly by and allow Molly to continue to suffer. Nope, don’t believe that all.
Wait, there’s more….. Johnson said she was so upset that they went out to dinner. How much did that meal cost? How do you affoard to eat out but have no money to humanely euthanize your 14 yr. old sick dog? And how do you go out to eat after you clubbed your dog to death in such a horrific manner?????
The Oregon Humane Society said her injuries and her overall health were too severe and she was subsequently “humanely” euthanized. Rest In Peace, sweet Molly.
The Forest Grove Police Department has opened a criminal investigation into Molly’s death and will be reinterviewing family members. How can they not be charged with aggravated animal cruelty? I’ll keep you posted.
I did attempt to call them for their side of the story but Mr. Long’s voicemail is completely filled up. I think we know why.
