From WFMZ:
UPPER SAUCON TWP., Pa. — A student was injured when a deer crashed through the window of a college classroom Wednesday morning.
It happened in Dooling Hall on the campus of DeSales University in Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County .
“The deer went through the window, basically went over me, cleared my desk,” said Harry Getty, a DeSales sophomore who suffered cuts on his hands as he tried to get away from the thrashing deer. “It was on the left side of me, which is the door side of the room and there’s no way I was going to go through a six-point buck, so I went out the window.”
Getty was taken to the hospital for treatment. He returned to campus a short time later.
University police said the buck may have been chasing a doe when he saw his reflection in the window, crashed through it, and broke one of his rear legs. Officers said they had to kill the deer because of the severity of his injuries.
“We’ve never had a deer jump through a window in the history of DeSales University, which is 40-some years now,” said Chief Karen Tempinski, DeSales University Police Department. “Now, we’re in a cornfield, but it’s not something we normally expect.”
Classes on the first floor of the building were moved elsewhere on campus while workers cleaned up the mess and replaced the broken window.
This was my point with my other post- bucks are chasing does with the end result of a high number of deer fatalities on the road. Bucks’ hormones are raging at this time of year.
Archery hunters are not a factor for the reasoning behind the large number of dead deer as speculated by uninformed people but it is more likely they are chasing does in pursuit to mate but the does are simply not ready to do so. And sadly, many deer are losing their lives in the process.
Gun season is an entirely different story as was explained in my earlier post.
