THE PUBLIC ‘S HELP IS NEEDED TO SOLVE THIS CASE! REWARD IS BEING OFFERED BY CRIME ALERT BERKS COUNTY.
Back on December 11th, 2011, this Lhasa Apso/Poodle mix dog, who was so matted that his age (3-5 yrs. old) was difficult to determine, was thrown from a speeding Gold Saturn on Rt. 61 in Perry Township.
He was named BJ for Baby Jesus for the upcoming Christmas Holiday. BJ was taken to Berks Animal Hospital where he was examined by Dr. Gerald Tishman. As told to me by the staff, BJ’s injuries were many and horrific. Among his gruesome injuries were spinal trauma, concussion, shock, dislocated jaw, possible fractured leg, internal injuries, fractured pelvis and completely matted fur.
This little guy sustained such unimaginable pain. Dr. Tishman allowed BJ to be released to a dog rescuer who then gave him to my friend, Nellie Briscoe and her mother to watch. Since Nellie’s mother knew had to administer an IV and look for signs of distress, BJ was allowed to stay in the warmth of not only their home but in their arms where BJ craved to be close to them.
Nellie tells me that despite BJ’s obvious pain, he only wanted to be close to her as he inched his way to her lap where all he wanted was to be loved. His fur was so thick from being matted, it literally had to be lifted to see his face or to know what sex he was. Nellie tells me his fur was his weight. Underneath the matted fur was a dog who was skin and bones. Obviously, a dog who didn’t know what it was to be loved and taken care of properly.
Since BJ’s jaw was thought to be broken, Nellie and her mother gave BJ a “binky” to rest his head, which was described to me as a stuffed animal (orange/yellow stuffed dog) that they give their pets. BJ loved his!
One thing was that was quite apparent to Nellie was that he craved love and who can blame him!
The next day, BJ was urinating all blood and was taken back to Berks Animal Hospital. Before he could be treated, BJ sadly passed away from his injuries.
BJ’s killer(s) has never been found.
