Most of the United States has been under the influence of a deep freeze. This deep freeze is also being felt in Europe and Britian.
Now we have seen the news reports about people dealing with this teeth-chattering weather and what they’re doing to stay warm.
But what are we doing to protect our dogs who are chained to dog houses 24/7 during this bitter cold weather?
View this video Tamira Ci Thayne of Founder of Dogs Deserve Better has made about this timely topic. Tami, who has been guest on my tv program, has made it her mission to unchain dogs in PA. She is doing a fantastic job but we need legislation to get passed to help these tethered dogs to live a better life.
House Bill 1254 would drastically change the lives of these chained dogs. But this bill ,which has sat idle, needs our help! This is the third anti-tethering bill to be introduced in the PA House of Representatives.
House Bill 1254 – anti-tethering bill- would incude but is not limited to the following actions:
*Dogs would not be permitted to be tethered outside unattended between the hours of 10 PM and 6 AM
*Tow chains would not be permitted
*Tethering would not be permitted when a weather advisory has been issued
What you can do: Contact your state representative. Contact your House Representative and let him or her know how important it is to you to get this piece of legislation passed. If you go to UnchainPADogs, it will guide you to sample letters you can send to your representative.
Tami also suggests we write letters to Thomas R. Caltagirone, Chairman of the Judiciary Committe, which is where the HB 1254 last sat as of November 13th, 2009.
Once again it is up to us to be the voices for those who are stuck in this bitter cold weather in dog houses with no warmth, no affection or interaction from humans or other animals, alone 24/7. Please let us band together to make a difference in their lives. We helped to change the puppymill laws in PA and we can do it for the chained dogs in PA.
This dog couldn’t be saved, but we can save others!!
