Join me this Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM, March 28th, when the topic of discussion will be PA’s animal legislation. My guest will be Jenny Stephens, Executive Director of North Penn Puppy Mill Watch.
Is PA’s legislation helping or hurting our animals? Are the laws effective? Has Act 119, our 2008 dog law, rid PA of the distinct title of being the puppy mill capital of the East?
What has happened to the four million that was taken from a state fund designated for dog law enforcement? How will this impact the inspection of commercial kennels that exist and are profiting from selling puppies in pet stores? How does this lack of funding affect animal shelters across PA?
Did you know a York County borough has passed the first anti-tethering law in PA? York County SPCA’s director, Melissa Smith, has been working to accomplish this in the entire county of York. It is also York County SPCA that has also been involved with a case involving a woman, Nena Wise, who was videotaped over four days in which she is shown rubbing her hand on the rectums of several of her eight Siberian Huskies. Some say the videotape clearly shows the insertion of her fingers into the dogs’ rectums. Whichever method Nena employed, it is not uncommon as you may think. This act is to stimulate the dogs to have a bowel movement. It is a common practice to perform this on dogs before shows. But, did Nena go too far and abuse them? Tune in and find out.
