As I had mentioned in my previous post, the Animal Rescue League of Berks County wasn’t aware of the method utilized to identify a feral cat that is part of a managed colony- these feral cats are ear tipped (pictured). The League has been educated on this identification process and will begin contacting No Nonsense Neutering and the Fairchild Foundation to allow them to find the colony to which they belong.
For anyone reading this post, please pass the information along to friends and family if they find or trap an ear tippped cat. Feel free to take the cat to either the Animal Rescue League or the Humane Society. Both are now aware that these outside cats belong to a cat colony.
Unfortunately, several ear tipped cats have been destroyed because of the lack of knowledge. A bit of education. as I previously mentioned, is going a long way to save the lives of these cats.
If an ear tipped cat is identified and the owner of the colony is found through the League, the owner will be directed to pick up their cat from the ARL. The ARL has graciously allowed to hold these cats for five days. Currently, in PA, there is no holding period for cats, only dogs.
Progress is slow but happening. The goal is to save lives because too many animals are losing their lives in Berks County.
