September 11th, 2001 is a day none of us will never forget. It is a day that is forever etched in our memories. It was a time of deep sorrow, sadness and grief but also a time of our nation coming together as well as the world despite our enemies celebrating in the streets over the deaths of nearly 3,000 people.
The days that ensued after 9/11 were of people coming from everywhere descending on New York City to help find the living amongst the remains at WTC’s Ground Zero. It then became a recovery effort to find bodies and remains of those whose lives were killed in the most shocking terrorist attack on US soil.
I have always praised the men and women who were at the forefront during those trying times.
Today, I also want to take the time to praise the efforts of the dogs who were deployed in the recovery effort after 9/11. Approximately 100 search and rescue dogs along with their owners scoured Ground Zero for any survivors from the attacks. As of 2011, only 12 dogs had survived. The dogs worked tirelessly along with their human counterparts for days on end to search and rescue. Their work is as important as those men and women whose goal was to rescue people back in 2001.
We can’t forget those who died on that fateful day. We must always remember all the men and women who helped in the search, rescue and recovery operations at that time. We can’t forget our canine buddies who helped to save people as well.
Canines are used in police departmenets across the country and have proven to be an important and crucial asset to help fight crime. They have also proven they deserve as much praise as their handlers in the aftermath of 9/11. Watch this video to see a dedication to the canines who served our country. I am proud of all.
My heart goes out to all who lost a loved one on 9/11.
