Last October 7th, two males, Angelo Monderoy, 18 and Matthew Cooper, 17 decided to break into a vacant apartment in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. What did they find ~ a homeless cat that the other tenants aptly named Scruffy. These two males held down Scruffy while dousing the cat with charcoal fluid. And of course, you know what happened next. They set Scruffy on fire.
Scruffy managed to make it outside, barely moving but able to cry. Scruffy was later euthanized due to the fourth degree burns that reached down to his muscles.
The ASPCA had been searching for this pair of thugs since last October. The break came this past week when the same two males entered the same building and entered another apartment. This time they beat an elderly man with his own cane while demanding money.
Monderoy and Cooper have both been charged with 2nd degree arson, 2nd degree burglary and aggravated animal cruelty. Each faces up to 25 yrs. in jail. I hope and pray to God they get the maximum penalty.
A message needs to be sent to thugs like these for such horrific animal cruelty inflicted upon an innocent victim. What they did to the elderly man proves my point that animal abuse is a precursor to abuse and crimes against people.
When will the courts learn? No more slap on the wrist. Send a message and tell these idiots that this behavior cannot and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. What does it take to enforce the laws we have? What does it take to take a stand against thugs like these?
Stop the insanity. Let’s get real for once. If we never send the right message, the cycle of abuse just continues! Give them 25 years!
